I was asked a question at the end of this interview that I probably don’t get asked often enough:
What have I got wrong?
That was in a really enjoyable hour-long conversation with the New Statesman’s Oli Dugmore.
It ranges pretty wildly! Obviously a big part of it was discussing my book The Fall of the West: How They Really Lost It.
But we specifically also talked about Andy Burnham and the future of Labour, whether the left has learned anything from the defeats of the 2010s, and how the ‘war on terror’ boomeranged back into Western politics’.
We also discussed the role of my colleagues in the Western media in Israel’s genocide of the Palestinian people.
And yes, I discussed how Theresa May saved my politics.
Oli doesn’t simply tee me up - he pushes back and that makes it a much more interesting interview.
