I sat down yesterday for an interview with Jeremy Corbyn - former leader of the Labour party, who was then purged by the Starmerites and was re-elected as independent MP for Islington North, the constituency he has represented since 1983.
Watch it here:
I’ll share some of my thoughts on the new party soon, but suffice to say that it’s re-injected some hope in an apocalyptically bleak political situation.
That over 600,000 have signed up in support in day tells us that there is a real political phenomenon here. If mainstream media outlets had political curiosity, they would find that interesting and interrogate it - but alas, expect a mixture of sneering and contempt.
These are febrile political times, and Starmer’s Labour began its time in office with a dearth of political enthusiasm - it won a third of the vote amidst the lowest turnout of all potential voters in British democratic history last year. Since then, it has become the most unpopular government at this point in office ever - with huge numbers clearly looking for an alternative to an economic system which breeds insecurity and hardship at home - and arms genocide abroad.
Let’s watch this space!
