What a leader, with his position on Gaza heavily influenced by his wife and his government continuing to support a plausible ongoing genocide he is open to charges of war crime complicity. (Blair somehow managed to dodge that bullet)

I am not sure how wise it is to completely undermine Starmer and Labor when Reform is surging. Criticize, yes. But should we actually repeat the error of the 2024 US election and facilitate actual real fascism because we understandably despise neoliberal centrists?

There can always be worse. Worth keeping in mind.

And reneging on just about every promise made in the run up to the election

This is an excellent post, and a meaningful contribution to the rebuilding of the left, which is so sorely needed.

Having written a post for Left Foot Forward in support of Starmer (and McDonnell) in 2019, I am now bitterly disappointed and disillusioned with him on so many levels, for all the reasons you have so well articulated.

However, I put it to you that identity politics as the only meaningful challenge to Starmer's centrism, since the days of Corbynism (which itself quickly stagnated post-2017), is itself crap and needs a major rethink. I would love to hear your thoughts on that in another post.
